Life has changed drastically for this girl!

I know it’s been forever since I posted but that’s simply because I’ve been busy, busy, busy!

Two months ago I became an independent Account Executive at Chronogram/Luminary Publishing. Meaning, I know work “for myself”, at home. It was challenging, at first, to push myself into working when I could have just slept in! But I quickly got the hang of it and now I’m much more productive and way happier!

Another thing that I’ve been working on is both Dash Ink (trying to get new clients and hopefully a brand new intern! Anyone interested???) and a new business idea my friend and I came up with. I’m really into crafts, sewing, photography, etc so we thought, why not start selling some of our creations? Why not make eco-friendly crafts from materials we find in the Hudson Valley?

So, we’re working on that. Here are some of the photographs we took last week, on a whim.

Barrytown, NY

Clermont State Park

Traintracks, Tivoli, NY

Tivoli Bays

I wish I had the Instagram app for my Android, but I heard a rumor that it’ll be released soon! *fingers crossed* Until then, I’ll be using the photography apps on my cell phone or using my boyfriend’s Nikon and filtering the photos on my computer. We would like to take some better photographs and print them on postcards.

I’ll let you know more later this week. My friend and I still have to get together tonight, to work out more details.

That’s all for now, folks!

{EAV:ba8f890534ff81c5} Checking out this new site I found, www.empireavenue.com That random string of letters and numbers is my verification code.

Empire Avenue is fun because you can buy shares in people who you think have a lot of social wealth. You also earn virtual currency by doing social things across the web.

Lame? I think so.

Luckily that will never happen to me. My boyfriend barely knows how to send an email :)

When I was in high school, I was accepted to Manhattanville College in Purchase, NY.

Instead of going to my “dream school”, I attended community college. I went through ups and downs but finally got re-accepted into Manhattanville as a transfer. The day I received my acceptance letter was one of the happiest days of my life.

Thinking that this school would help make my dreams come true, I blindly left home and started the semester.

Less than 2 weeks in, I realized that what I wanted more than anything, was to be back at home. However, I had to stick out the semester and make the best of it.

I tried to make Westchester my home. I truly did. I drove around, endlessly, learning my way through White Plains, Harrison, Port Chester, and other towns. I made a few close friends. I (mostly) attended class and worked as a nanny for a wealthy family (for a recap of that experience, watch/read “The Nanny Diaries”. It’s pretty close to what goes on with these Westchester families).

But every other weekend, I came home. After work on Friday, I’d have my car all packed up and drive the 90 or so miles back to upper Dutchess county. When the weekend was over, I’d say my goodbyes and drive back to school. It became my routine to cry half the ride back, listening to this song.

Why? Because I finally realized where my “home” truly was. The song fit my life EXACTLY and for that reason, I couldn’t stop listening to it.

I felt, as Michael Buble says, like I was “living someone else’s life”. Every word he sang, hit me hard.

When December came around, it was finally time to come home. And as I drove across a random i-287 overpass, I stopped in the middle of the road. I put on this song and listened for a moment. I gazed up and down the road, watching cars drive as fast as possible. I realized, that, for the first time in my life, I was leaving one “life” behind and going back to the one that truly made me who I am, today.

College (and the life it forms when you attend it) is something that I will never forget. But it didn’t define me. And it didn’t make me whole.

Home. That’s what makes you, you. Be it a house, a person, anything that gives you that feeling of being where you are supposed to be.

I leave it, sometimes, and make temporary homes, elsewhere.

But what I learned, after Manhattanville, is that I’ll always have home with me.

Because there, I can truly be myself. Home makes me complete.

I don’t know quite what we’ll be selling yet. Maybe niches. I’ve heard the niche market is doing really well.

I’ve been working at Chronogram Magazine for about 2 months now. I’ve learned a whole bunch of new things including what I want Dash Ink to be like. I see how employees and interns are treated and know what to do (and what not to do) to ensure that everyone is happy and productive.

At the very least, I can say that my time with Chronogram has made me more insightful.
